Washington, D.C. — The community of Washington, D.C., is grieving the loss of 26-year-old Kenny Jimmenez Rivera, who tragically died after being struck by a garbage truck while riding his electric bicycle in the northwest section of the city. The collision occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Kansas Avenue and Upshur Street in the Petworth neighborhood.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female e-bike rider, who was also involved in the crash, was left seriously injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the truck struck both cyclists while making a right turn, and the driver fled the scene without stopping.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police located the vehicle in Hyattsville and have since identified the driver. However, charges have not been filed, and the case remains under review by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Division.
