Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that unfolded during a high school hockey game Monday at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, leaving a community in shock.
Police said the gunfire broke out shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena during a Senior Night matchup. The suspected shooter, identified by law enforcement as Robert K. Dorgan, 56, of North Providence — known publicly as Roberta Esposito — allegedly opened fire on members of a family attending the game before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Two victims later died from their injuries, while three others were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
Chief Tina Goncalves said preliminary findings suggest the shooting was the result of a domestic-related dispute. Mayor Don Grebien expressed condolences to the families affected, describing the event as devastating but isolated.
Officials continue to gather evidence and have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as the investigation proceeds.
