Tyler Dukes Car Crash Ripley County, IND Death and Obituary

Grief settled heavily over southeastern Indiana after Tyler Dukes was killed in a tragic crash Sunday afternoon, cutting short a life defined by devotion and joy. The 37-year-old Madison resident died following a two-vehicle collision in western Ripley County that unfolded just before 3 p.m.

Authorities say the crash occurred on U.S. Route 50 at County Road 600 West near Holton. Dukes’ Mercury Mariner overturned in the roadway after a near head-on impact with a 2022 Volvo commercial truck driven by Richard Murray of Spring Hill, Florida. The truck came to rest off the north side of the highway. Dukes was pronounced dead at the scene, while Murray was treated at Margaret Mary Health for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Investigators from the Indiana State Police are working to determine what led Dukes’ vehicle to cross the centerline. Toxicology testing is pending as part of the ongoing review.

Family and friends remember Tyler as a vibrant presence — a man whose laughter filled rooms and whose dedication to loved ones never wavered. He was known for kindness, reliability, and an easy warmth that drew people close. In the wake of his death, the Ripley County and Madison communities have united in support, offering prayers and comfort to his grieving family.

The tragedy stands as a solemn reminder of life’s fragility. While investigators seek answers, those who loved Tyler hold tight to memories of shared moments, enduring affection, and the light he brought into their lives.
