Virginia Tech Shooting: Columbine High School Littleton Uvalde Texas, Adam Lanza Murder-Suicide

On December 14, 2012, a mass shooting took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Twenty-six people were killed — 20 children between six and seven years old and six adult staff members. The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, died by suicide as responding officers arrived at the scene.

The 20 children who lost their lives were:
Ana Marquez-Greene, Charlotte Bacon, Daniel Barden, Olivia Chapman, Josephine Gay, Dylan Hockley, Madeleine Hsu, Catherine Hubbard, Chase Kowalski, Jesse Lewis, James Mattioli, Grace McDonnell, Anne Marie Murphy, Emily Parker, Jack Pinto, Noah Pozner, Caroline Previdi, Jessica Rekos, Avielle Richman, Benjamin Wheeler, and Allison Wyatt.

The six adult staff members killed were:
Principal Dawn Hochsprung, School Psychologist Mary Sherlach, teachers Victoria Soto and Lauren Rousseau, and staff members Rachel Davino and Anne Marie Murphy.

The tragedy had a profound national impact, prompting widespread discussions about gun legislation, school security measures, and mental health policy in the United States. In the years since, several victims’ families have become advocates for policy changes and violence prevention efforts, working to honor the lives lost and reduce the risk of similar tragedies in the future.
